I didn’t realize how big they would be because they are a gel capsule (My thoughts, “How big could just 25mg of iron be…” Answer: Pretty big). I’m sure it’s because it’s not a pressed pill and because of the type and amount of iron included. At least the serving size is only 1 pill, unlike some other tricky vitamins. It is indeed easy to digest. I’ve had no problems with it, even in combination with my other supplements. Only one time ever have I burped an aftertaste. The pills themselves don’t taste great, but then again I am pregnant so everything smells and tastes stronger and it’s definitely not bad for a vitamin. I’m very happy that it contains only Iron because I needed Iron in addition to my prenatal pills. Since there are no other vitamins or minerals thrown in I don’t have to worry about overdoing the others. I get just what I want. Also the capsules are made from vegetable sources instead of bovine/gelatin so I think that’s awesome. There are 180 in this bottle so at the rate of 1 per day it is about a 6 month supply which would last me the majority of my pregnancy. I went through about a dozen other iron supplement listings with different ingredients and potency before choosing this one and I’m happy with my choice.

I’ve been taking daily Iron supplements for over 15 years, due to border-line anemia. My stomach has no problem digesting this form of Iron, Iron Bisglycinate, even on an empty stomach. A recent scientific study indicated that two alternative forms of Iron, Ferric Citrate and Ferric EDTA, are correlated with formation of a biomarker associated with development of colon cancer. There was no such association found with Iron Bisglycinate. Iron Bisglycinate is an effective from of Iron which is more easily absorbed (has greater bioavailability), than many other types of Iron supplements.
However, since the label doesn’t indicate either GMP Quality Assured, which means it has met General Manufacturing Practices and meets certain quality standards, nor USP (U.S. Pharmacopeial) Dietary Supplement Verified. Therefore, I can only give it 4 stars.
