Saccharomyces boulardii is a probiotic yeast that survives stomach acid and colonizes the intestinal tract. It promotes the health of the intestinal tract, helps to encourage a healthy gut flora balance, and supports a balanced intestinal response to normal internal and environmental stressors. Saccharomyces boulardii has also been shown to support proper gastrointestinal function during temporary disruptions to the normal balance of gut flora.

This is an excellent probiotic. I discovered it when helping a family member who was hospitalized for c diff. C diff is a killer. It’s no joke. Taking this helps the good bacteria colonize and prevents c diff. Don’t overdo it as this particular strain can get into the blood from what I understand. Taking the proper dose daily is good.

After 3 weeks of watery diarrhea, I went to a GI specialist who that day prescribed an antibiotic, Xifaxan, that he described as “the best” but pretty expensive. He looked up my drug plan and saw that it “was covered”. His idea of “covered” isn’t mine! This drug, which retails for over $1200 for 10 days, would have cost me $400 and I would be unable to refill it, despite my doctor’s belief that I would need it for an additional 10 days. I spent a couple of days of intensive research, reading National Institutes of Health studies, Mayo Clinic information, and pretty much anything else I could get my hands on that would suggest alternative (herbal) therapy. Based on that research I ordered a bottle of NOW saccharomyces boulardii and took my first dose 2 1/2 days ago. I was hoping for relief, but since I’m not really an herbal kinda gal, I doubted it would help. This is probably too much information, but I had my first normal poop today in almost 5 weeks. I hope I’m not being premature in my praise, but this cannot be a coincidence. I plan to supplement this product with Candibactin-AR and Candibactin-BR which are on their way. This product is so reasonably priced, I urge giving it a try and avoid a possible C. difficile antibiotic roller coaster where all your good bacteria are killed along with the bad.

I adopted a senior kitty that was hugely overweight, cried constantly for food and had chronic diarrhea. I started giving him 1/2 a capsule, twice a day, and it’s made an enormous difference! He’s happier and more calm. He doesn’t obsess about getting fed 24-7 anymore. He eats less and his litterbox activity has changed in frequency and stinkiness. I’m also pleased to report that he’s very gradually losing weight.. He’s eating much less because (I’m guessing) his body is able to really digest and process his food now, whereas before it just rushed right through him. This has been a wonderful gift to a poor kitty who’s clearly been suffering for years!
UPDATE: I’m now finishing my second bottle and will be ordering a third. A capsule a day, spread out over 2-3 meals, has continued to have a huge impact on my cat. His weight is continuing to noralize and he’s happier and more calm. The litterbox situation has also normalized. I don’t see any reason to stop giving this to him. I’ve also started to add a probiotic just for cats, just a small amount every few days. I haven’t really seen any improvement from this other probiotic, but I don’t think it hurts him to add this. I’m so grateful for this product, it’s really changed my cat’s life!

This is great for antibiotic associated diarrhea. They also work great for bellyaches and bloating if you’re lactose intolerant. My mother took just one and felt a lot better after being sick to her stomach for over a week. It says to take 2 tablets 2 or 3 times a day but no one in my family has every needed to use that much in a day. I use these when my system is out of whack (IBS symptoms) or when I have to take an antibiotic. I’ve tried many types of probiotics but after much research, I saw that this was the strain I needed.

Saccharomyces Boulardii is actually a yeast itself that doesn’t stay in your system and helps remove bad candida yeast from your digestive tract. Take it with your probiotics to make your candida cleanse even more effective. Just make sure you take it hours away from any anti-fungals you are taking otherwise those anti-fungals will be kill the Saccharomyces Boulardii ON TOP OF the candida in your system and you’ll just feel a little extra more terrible and this supplement won’t be doing it’s thing. I take this an hour before dinner, 7 hours after taking oregano oil/coconut oil at lunch, and that’s enough to have no ill side effects.
Good luck.

Has greatly improved my PI IBS-D and my overall quality of life. I suffered a horrendous case of bacterial gastroenteritis in the spring, and after taking over a month to get over it, it transitioned right into IBS-D. Symptoms only marginally improved through June, July, and into August. After beginning this product in late August, I had immediate, dramatic improvement. I’m still weary of being too far from a bathroom, so for over a week, this has been a needless worry. I now recommend anyone that has IBS-D or other similar symptoms to try this product!

My doctor recommended this to me for bloating. I am Celiac, undiagnosed for years and have major damage to my digestion. Bowels don’t often work right, one extreme to the other. I lived with a stomach ache, midriff pain every day of the last 20 years. I’ve rotated through many different probiotics for years as well as make and consume my own ferments. Yet I had discomfort I just learned to live with.
With the first pill and for the first time in forever, my midriff pain is gone. I don’t know why or how, I just know I am pain free. I hope this side effect lasts! Bowels were regulated in one week. Another strange occurrence for me. I won’t be without this now.

I had high hopes for these to cure my case of C diff, but these didn’t work alone. Had to go to the doctor and get a prescription for vancomycin to take along with these. Both together seem to be working, but alone, after over a week, didn’t help my c diff, but I am sure it helped me out somewhat. Will continue to take to avoid another bout of C a diff.

I’ve been battling C. diff for the past 6 months. So far I am almost a month without recurring symptoms! I definitely owe some of that to this product. I was taking jarrow brand. I don’t see a huge difference between the two products and this one was definitely cheaper. I did notice my stools being a little more back to normal with this product! No cramping or diarrhea. Definitely recommend it.

Works perfectly..took with 14 days course of antibiotics..never thought it will work so well

I don’t know why the review asked about the taste of this product when it’s swallowed and not chewed. I mean, it’s a gelatin capsule probiotic, not fish oil. Oh well. Anyways, I haven’t taken this long enough to speak about its benefits, but I’ve taken s. boulardi before, so I’ll leave an update if anything changes. It does help the gut heal up, but don’t expect a miracle. Let the medicine work, give this about two weeks.

This probiotic works great on bowel issues, diarhea etc… Great to help resolve C-diff, I’ve taken this while on vancomycin to cure c-diff caused by clindomycin and it works more quickly than taking antbiotic alone.
Recommend to take when travelling, it will “tighten” you up to allow you return home in emergencies.

S. boulardii has documented efficacy in treating acute forms of diarrhea. I have IBS with chronic diarrhea and wanted to find out if it could be useful in treating the chronic form as well. It is useful–but its beneficial effects were temporary at the dosage of one cap twice a day.
After three weeks, I experienced breakthrough diarrhea. Now I’m experimenting with dosage. I now take five caps a day spaced out into three separate doses of one in the morning, three in the afternoon, and one in the evening. The effect so far has been that I have several bowel movements in a morning that devolve into diarrhea, which completely empties my bowel. No BMs for two days, after which the pattern repeats itself. I had the same effect taking Imodium.
S boulardii is also supposed to weaken the proliferation of Candida in the gut and help maintain a healthy balance of bacteria. Still not sure how I’ll proceed with this line of treatment.

For several years I had been taking Florastor (purchased at Amazon.com) daily, at the recommendation of my gastroenterologist. It works well. When I went to reorder most recently, none of the Amazon vendors had the product available for Prime shipping, and I was almost out. So I carefully checked the ingredients of this product and they appear to be identical. (The only issue is that Florastor shows the dosage per capsule in milligrams while NOW Supplements shows it in something called “CFU” units, 5 billion per capsule. Not sure if this is identical).
Anyway, I ordered it, and it seems to work as well as Florastor, and the price is less than 1/4 of the cost of Florastor. I will continue with it.

I tested this using one capsule in 6 ounces of Nestle Carnation Evaporated milk. The temperature was maintained at 86 degrees F for 24 hours. At the 24 hour mark, the 6 ounces of milk was roughly the consistency of Jello Pudding. The taste was fine and I incorporated it into a gallon of Kefir during it’s secondary fermentation to increase the probiotic effect of the Kefir. This appears to be a fine product at a fair price.

Edit: I had these work well for stopping diarrhea. But then soon after they worked for that I had a bathroom issue I’ve never experienced before. I’ve never had constipation before, but this was much more than that. It wasn’t good.
So I suggest going very slowly with these at first and not overdoing it. Try less than a full dose for the first few days to see how you react is my suggestion. I wish someone had told me that.
I’ve had killer gastritis for six weeks. I started taking this two days ago, three capsules a day. Last night I was seriously thinking I was dying from stomach pain, intestinal pain, chronic diarrhea for this entire time. I felt that I was truly ill enough to die. I was weak, in horrible pain to the point I was crying. I took two or three of these, I don’t remember exactly.
Today the pain has been gone. It still feels not quite right in my intestines, slightly crampy but not like it has been.
The major stomach pain has been gone all day. It’s now evening and even though I’ve been eating, the stomach pain hasn’t returned. This is the first time in six weeks the pain has been gone. And I’ve only had one trip to the bathroom. This is a major improvement.
I will take four a day tomorrow and for at least the next two weeks and have high hopes that this will cure whatever it was that caused this. I’m fearful of stopping this.
I’m also taking a NOW Allibiotic capsule every day which also seems to help a little.
I’ve been totally housebound since this started. I think I finally see a light at the end of the tunnel.

My kitty has IBD. I started adding s boulardii to his food over a year ago along with a weekly vitamin b12 injections and slippery elm bark. This cocktail has stopped his explosive diarrhea. He has stopped losing weight. I am so grateful….. I feared I was going to lose him at one point.

Helped my gut issues almost immediately. Amazing took as recommended by my doctor for candida and recovering from taking antibiotics for Lyme disease.

Cured my Moms IBS at 84 she can now leave the house without an overnight bag packed and needing to know where every bathroom is located, that’s not living.
Now she can experience life again.
Thank you and she doesn’t take the total dosage so she has room to increase in case a slip up. I also have her stop for a week every month so not to over do it.

I recently came down with c diff and had been using florastor probiotics they are great but pretty pricey. While doing some research I discovered that Now has the exact same ingredients and it’s way more cost effective. It works just as well as florastor, I’ll be continuing to take this everyday for the rest of my life to keep away this terrible infection.

In the hospital I had IV antibiotics every 6 hours and every 12 hrs for three days then antibiotics orally for 7 days w the potential for a full 6 weeks of treatment ahead. This meant I had a serious risk of C. Diff. Once home I grabbed a bottle of this stuff and took it 3x a day, 15 min before meals. I took the supplement until the bottle was empty. I did not get c. diff. I also ate a cup of healthy yogurt each day.

After a nasty bout of C Diff and hospitalization, my doctor recommended a probiotic. I like the convenience of buying from Amazon. Hints: Keep refrigerated AND if you are taking an antibiotic, wait 2 hours before or after the antibiotic to take the probiotic. Otherwise, the antibiotic kills the good bacteria in the probiotic making it worthless. I can’t say I have had a miraculous recovery, but I plan to continue to take them since many of my symptoms have lessened.

If you want to do the probiotic thing, this is the one to get. It is one substance. The others say they are combos of probiotics. How do you know which one works? This works. It will solve your “irregularity” problems and you will never want to be without it. Trust me. I’ve been around the block a few times.

Just one capsule of this stuff works for me for mild but ongoing diarrhea that I develop from time to time. It gets me back to normal although it takes 12 hours or so to kick in.
I probably have mild IBS, nothing major like ulcerative colitis. I only use about one dose per month. I don’t use unless the loose stools last more than a day or two.
It’s certainly handy to have a bottle of these in the fridge.

If your body needs this type of probiotic … you know who you are … it really works. If your body functions a little too *clears throat* easily, this is the right type of probiotic strand.

I bought this after a terrible bout with C-diff because my Dr. recommended I start taking a daily probiotic. I honestly can’t say how well they worked because by the time I finished the bottle I was already “back to normal” and haven’t repurchased. I’m now getting my probiotic from a different source. They were fresh and arrived quickly though so I’d give the seller and their products an AAA+.

Im.a previous cdiff patient, was long hard fight an my gut hasnt been same since. I was using jarrow brand which is great an this seems just as good. I have to keep this on hand along with a broad spectrum probiotic

Great value for your Sacc. Boul. . . I’ve used more expensive brands in the past and can’t tell a difference, though I’m pretty sensitive to sugar/yeast. Granted, it’s hard to measure your own microbiome, but I have enjoyed using this product and will continue to 🙂

I am so impressed with how well these probiotics work for my IBS-D. It calms my stomach and allows me to enjoy meals without cramping or running to the restroom. I only take one per day between lunch and dinner since this is when I take in most of my food. You don’t have to refrigerate and the capsules go down so easily, even I who have problems swallowing pills have no issues with these. Highly recommend trying for your digestive issues!
Elliot –
I’m always really skeptical about nutritional supplements, since no one checks if what the company claims are in the pills are actually in the pills. But I used this for a sourdough starter since I thought it would be funny to have “probiotic” bread, and the stuff in the capsules was able to make a bubbly starter. I have no idea if it’s the right strain of yeast, but this product does contain yeast! 5 stars!

Very helpful for the digestive system if you’re dealing with IBS, Ulcerative Colitis or Chrons.

Combined with a homeopathic diarrhea tablet & a coconut macaroon, it stops diarrhea. Also, we carry all 3 in the car just in case….

I had suffered from glyphosate poisoning from eating GMO and non-organic foods. Glyphosate is sprayed on all of our non organic food and feed crops and is now concentrated in beef, pork, and chicken meat. Glyphosate is not just used in RoundUp to kill weeds in farms, it’s a patented and powerful antibiotic. It’s found in all our processed foods because it has contaminated our drinking water. Basically, glyphosate destroyed all my good bacteria in my gut which caused a health crisis dealing with different infections. Result was years of allergies to certain foods like peanuts, gluten, dairy, and sugar. I would get extreme dry skin where I scratched until my skin bleed, hives on skin, gout like symptoms in my joints, swollen and painful lymph nodes in my neck, watery stool, frequent urges to use bathroom, extreme bloating and gas in gut day and night, pain around my liver and pancreas, sore thigh muscles and chronic arthritis from autoimmune disease, low quality sleep from body pain, low energy and lethargy throughout day, sick easily due to low immune system, brain fog and mental exhaustion, easily stressed, gingivitis gum disease, overworked liver and pancreas that were weakening; life was almost unbearable. I realized that my liver and pancreas were failing and early stages of diabetes type 2 was beginning to show in blood tests. Doctors and diatician didn’t know what I was suffering from. Told me to cut back on sugar which I did but no help there. When I read about the effects of this probiotic yeast I knew this would help, but I didn’t expect it with a few supplements to get rid of all my diseases so quickly within two weeks of taking it. I combined this with a good multi strain probiotic that had at least 6 strains of Lactobacillus bacteria; taking it three times a day, I tripled the recommended dose. I included L-glutamine powder in order to start healing my IBS and leaky gut faster. I took taurine to improve bile flow from liver to remove gall stones in my gall bladder; the stones cleared because sharp pain around liver stopped. I took milk thistle to speed up healing of my liver. I took Swedish Bitters to improve digestion and increase healing speed of my pancreas and liver. I used a dental water pick with iodine and baking soda in the water to rid gingivitis/candida in my gums and mouth while my immune system focused on cleaning candida yeast overgrowth and infection in my blood and organs. I took MSM simultaneously to increase sulfur in my system to increase speed of healing for bones, muscle, skin, and joints. I made and drink a kale shake daily to boost potassium intake and fiber in my gut to feed the good bacteria. I took nutritional yeast enriched with B1 and other B vitamins to help my body metabolise sugar so I don’t feel muscle pain after I eat. Some supplements and routines were started a few months earlier, but they didn’t do much or last long for most of my physical conditions. Exception was the caprylic-acid; I took caprylic-acid slow release with magnesium, which noticeably suppressed the candida yeast infection in my gut; I immediately felt relief with less bloating in two days, joints and muscle pain improved to where I can tolerate it daily. Still, caprylic-acid was not good enough as candida yeast is very resilient and grows back quickly due to lack of good yeast population in gut to displace the bad candida yeast. Started the S. Boulardii yeast supplement and all my physical ailments turned around quickly. My dry skin condition was gone in a few days. I knew my gut was healing when my stools started to come out sausage shaped in a week which I haven’t seen for years. In two weeks, I am symptom free thanks to this powerful probiotic yeast and the synergistic effects from my other supplements. No more food related allergies to peanuts, dairy, gluten and sugar. Eat organic and support our organic farmers and avoid as much as possible glyphosate poisoned foods which started this global health crisis.
