My husband and I have been on a ketogenic diet for 5 months now. Hubs is down 50 pounds and I am down 15 pounds. Through five months of keeping carbs below 20g a day I have learned the secret of success to sticking with it is always to have a keto friendly dessert on hand. This 2.5 pound of erythritol stretches pretty far and the desserts I use this to bake completely kills all my urges for sugar and carbs. Just an FYI for anyone who may not already know, if you grind your Erythritol up in a coffee grinder, automatic confectioners sugar :-). I am a very happy customer and will continue buying this product for all my low carb baking needs.

No bitter aftertaste. Perfect for me to recipes. I couldn’t find this is Canada… Worth the purchase!!!

I have moved to a Keto lifestyle, and wanted to use an artificial sweetener for an occasional drink, sweet treat, etc. and tried to use Sucralose, but found that I was having trouble getting into, or staying in Ketosis. It turns out that Sucralose can affect your blood sugar. I tested my fasting glucose, before and after drinking black coffee sweetened with it, and found that my blood sugar went up over 40 points! I did some research, and found that to be the case with almost every person who did testing like I did. So, I tried Erythritol. It tastes better, has no aftertaste, and doesn’t affect my blood sugar at all. This is a regular purchase for me now, and speaking of Now, they are a great company that I’ve bought from before. I’ve bought a number of their other products, and have to say they are one of the best out there for health foods. Check them out!

I’ve been replacing 1/2 or more of the sugar in my baking recipes with erythritol, then adding about 1/4c extra liquid (to account for how erythritol tends to absorb more over time and thus dry out baked goods by the next day). So far, this has worked beautifully and has really helped me to make a lot of our favorite treats more reasonable to eat.

Erythritol is a really great sweetener for someone like me. I have a massive sweet tooth but I know sugar is awful for you, and I also subscribe to a keto diet which means steering very clear from sugar. But I still want to enjoy some cookies or brownies or a nice sweetened coffee or tea some days (seriously, you can’t beat an espresso with heavy cream with a teaspoon of this in it or a little bit in a cup of chai tea, it’s heaven!). No aftertaste like Stevia or similar sugar replacements, it’s ever so slightly less sweet than traditional sugar (but keto-ers like me are unlikely to notice as our tolerance for sweet gets dramatically reduced in a lot of cases), and it melts in warmth very easily so there’s no worry of making a hot drink only to have a layer of sweetness coating the bottom of your mug because nothing melted and mixed properly.
The 2.5lb bag is also an excellent value for the price and one of the best prices I’ve seen for this much Erythritol. I used to be Swerve but I’m pretty sure I’m converted to NOW Foods. I don’t use it super often so this much will definitely last me a long time, but I love that I don’t have to pay an absurd amount for it all either.
CeeCee –
As a diabetic, it makes me able to eat muffins, banana bread, and desserts made with almond flour.
Julia Gregoire –
Excellent taste! I use it for baking and I can’t really tell the difference! Mixes well in batters and sauces
CherN –
Tastes great and easy to use (one for one) but it’s pretty grainy. Doesn’t really dissolve. It doesn’t really bother me but next time I’ll look for something that dissolves better.

Works as advertised. Bag reseals nicely. I’ve now tried this product and Swerve. Both are sweet and can be used interchangeably. But the Swerve is more finely ground. Swerve isn’t powdered, but the crystals are smaller. I have no judgement about it, but am mentioning it in case your recipe calls for a courser grind. If so, get this NOW Erythritol over the Swerve brand. The NOW erythritol mimics regular sugar crystal size better. I found that made for a nicer peanut butter zuzu as I like the grit of the sugar.

Erythritol has become a pantry staple for me since I stopped eating refined sugar a few years ago. It has the right granular texture as table sugar but zero calories. This NOW Foods brand erythritol is a great deal for the price. I have used it in everything from coffee to smoothies to oatmeal to baking brownies, and it’s held up like a champ every time.
Erythritol is a sugar alcohol like xylitol or maltitol, but unlike those two it didn’t cause me any gas or stomach upset (a big plus!) and it seems to be the only one of the three with zero calories (another plus!).
The only downside is that its sweetness is a little weaker than table sugar, so you’ll need to use more, which means you’ll go through the bag faster than you may be accustomed to. In baking, you can add a pinch of stevia to this stuff to make it stronger without throwing off the dry-to-wet ratio.

Product delivered promptly and in tact, as expected.
This is my first time trying erythritol. So I can’t comment on whether this particular brand is better than others.
However, I will say, there was no bitter aftertaste. I used this in a keto zucchini bread recipe which called for 1.5 cups and it was so effective, it was too sweet. It also had the strong cooling affect.
It reminded me EXACTLY of the flavor and sensation of eating hostess powdered donuts. I couldnt believe how sweet it was. I tried same recipe with half turbinado sugar and half erythritol. The cooling affect was gone, but it was still way too sweet.
My experience tells me this is definutely an adequate substitute for CERTAIN recipes. I will try again with other (appropriate) recipes.
SDS –
It does have zero calories as well as zero carbs, which it’s great for my keto diet, but it’s not as sweet as other reviews claim it is; at least to me. I tried on coffee, and it does have a cooling aftertaste, and I had to put at least like 4 or 5 tsp just to have a small taste of sweetness, which with the small amount of oz this package containers, would not last me a while. I bake some sugar free chocolate chips cookies, and again that cooling effect does not sit well. I basicly threw the whole batch out. I tried again, and bake a sugar free cheesecake, and it work great. I did love the way it tasted. I also turn some into powder sugar on my Ninja, and it turns out great. It does work better this way, no cooling aftertaste.

J’adore ce sucrant naturel. Je fais le régime cétogène et ce sucre convient à ce type d’alimentation. Il a également très bon goût, soit aucune différence d’avec le sucre ordinaire.
dreamonmissy –
Just tried it for the 1st time in a Keto shortbread recipe and it worked great! Of course, not as good as regular shortbread but it’ll do just fine for me I couldn’t detect any difference in the flavour of this as compared to regular sugar. I’m happy with it but the price needs to come down. So I gave it less stars for “value for money”.
Eileen Bailey –
I used it for sweetening applesauce and apple crisp. It worked quite well but of course it’s a lot more expensive than sugar.
kathy –
Hard to find in stores. Tastes like sugar and better for you.
kwajgirl –
I bought NOW Foods, Erythritol on the advice of a family member who loves it. I used it to make a chocolate cake and boiled chocolate fudge icing. I didn’t notice much aftertaste in the cake or icing, as I do with Stevia, but did notice the icing having a super sweet taste in the mouth that was a bit much. I will use a bit less in the icing next time. This is the best sugar alternative I have tried and definitely recommend it.
Sierra Sugar –
If you follow a keto or low carb diet you are probably familiar with the different sugar alternatives. One of the popular “brands” always mentioned is Swerve. That is the brand name for the sweetener used, which is Erythritol. The “Now” brand is just as good if not better, plus you get almost triple the amount for half the price of the other brand. Also, if you need the confectioners/powdered version for your keto baking, all you need to do is put a cup or so of the Now brand into a blender and pulse for a minute or two. Voila! Instant powdered sweetener without having to spend more.
Unlike Stevia which can have a bitter, almost licorice after-taste, and Monk Fruit, which can be pricey and has a vanilla cooling aftertaste (though not entirely unpleasant), Erythritol to me tastes closest to actual sugar, does not cause an insulin spike, has 0 carbs, doesn’t cause gastro problems like stevia, maltitol, and unlike Xylitol is safe for pets.

Love this sugar substitute
Blissguru –
I love this stuff-I use it in anything sugar would be used-it does not mess with blood sugar and its tooth friendly-
I am a dog lover so anyone with dogs-DO NOT LET THEM HAVE THIS-I have read it is toxic to dogs-
I had not seen any Science prooving this-but-I am passing this along-because when I did have a dog? What did I eat? They had some too…:)
Raven Roth –
I like that this sweetener has no calories and isn’t metabolized the same way as other sugar alcohols. I put it in my keto milkshakes/smoothies and they taste great but this product has me running to the toilet 30 minutes later. Maybe my body hasn’t gotten used to it because it has only been a week since I bought it but do be careful with the servings. According to some research I did, consuming this often can hurt your GI tract which explains my subsequent bowel problems after consuming this product.
Rania –
it looks, feels, and tastes just like sugar. the only reason i reduced a star is that it doesn’t sweeten enough until you at least double the amount as i used to do for sugar. ie, to get the sweetness of one tablespoon of sugar you’l need to add 2-3 tablespoons of this erythritol to get the same flavor. other than that it is a great alternative of Stevia that has a strong after taste. This one does not have any aftertaste.
Andre & Tammie –
I like it. I tried monk fruit powder and drops and…I just can’t, whether pure or blended with erythritol, so I just decided to just go with the erythritol. This seems like the sweetener option that is the best compromise between taste and a healthier choice than, say, Equal or Sweet ‘n’ Low. No aftertaste, stomach cramping or GI upset. I am an admitted sugar addict, so I probably need more than the typical person. With coffee, I add 2 tbs for example. I don’t bake so I can’t speak to cooking experience. I chose this brand because it’s non-GMO. I also like the plastic resealable package.
Steakman –
I cook a lot of different types of foods with this product. I eat flourless waffles almost every day (eggs, peanut butter) – I add some of this to make it a little sweet.
I also cook up marina from scratch and use this instead of sugar.
If you taste it directly, it gives your mouth a “cool” sensation. It also tastes similar, but not exactly, like sugar.
Another bonus – I have not noticed any bathroom side-effects from the product. Some sweeteners can cause issues so I avoid those.
I’ve gone through about 6 bags of this now and will buy more. It’s my go to sweetener.
Khadijha –
Please note that it is granules of crystals not powder so what I had to do was use my blender and make it in to powder form. Good value for your money, you don’t have to use a lot but if you’re using this for tea or coffee please use stevia not erythritol. Erythritol is better for baking then put it into your tea or coffee.

This makes Keto completely doable for me. You can make wonderful deserts… it measures almost exactly like sugar. Maybe a little less sweet unlike Splenda or Stevia that you just use a tiny bit for sweetness. It has a little bit of a cold taste on the tongue and if you use a lot of it in a dessert you might have that sensation but truly no aftertaste in any of the desserts I’ve made. I have to say I don’t love it in my coffee but only because I’m a sugar addict and I loved a lot of sugar in my coffee so it’s hard to compare to that. But I prefer it to Stevia. I would t have gotten through Keto without this sugar alternative. So glad I found it!
Sydni Yates –
I really hated cooking with this, I’ve got to be honest. I’ve been searching for a good sugar substitute and this just wasn’t it. It was sweet but because it is a sugar alcohol it gives you the same sensation that you get when you’re chewing gum when consumed. It almost has an intolerable minty feel. Very annoying when I want a comfort food chocolate chip cookie and instead it tasted like I had made mint gum cookies.
Switchblade McGuilicutty –
Of all of the non-sugar sweeteners out there, erythritol is one of the best. This product is good and the price is very good. My issue with the NOW Foods version is that the crystal size is too large (on both an absolute and relative comparison); basically it doesn’t dissolve well and creates issues as a result. NOW Foods needs to slightly (20%?) reduce the crystal size to make this a 5-star product. I would actually give it 3.5 stars if I could.

As a migraine sufferer, I have to be careful about artificial anything. First and foremost, this product did not trigger any kind of headache. Secondly, but just as important- it tastes like sugar! I use seven teabags to two quarts of water (bottled) and one cup of this sweetener. I boil the tea, steep five minutes. In my tea pitcher, I add the sweetener and some water to help it dissolve as it does take a few stirs. Once I add the hot tea water, any residual sweetener melts away. I also made tropical punch with the erythritol (with some thinly sliced oranges), and it too was delicious. Great product!

Cheapest than on the market

Good sweetener without after taste. It works great in baking
Ronald Malcolm –
I got this to expand my culinary repertoire for low-carb cooking. I’ve gotten more into desserts and drinks, which is especially important during the holidays and when I’m entertaining friends and trying to highlight the vast possibilities of low-carb dining.
When I say that this sweetener accomplishes a “thankless task,” what I mean is that it is sweet and versatile. Unlike some sweeteners, you don’t have to endure a lot of compromises to use it for baking or other high-heat applications, nor does it have a heavy aftertaste which must always be masked.
I prefer the granulated version of this because it’s the most flexible; if I want powdered, I run it through a coffee grinder that I have set aside especially for non-coffee applications.
Oh, and given the portion that comes in this bag, this price is a bargain.
David Bower –
I have purchased from NOW Foods before and been happy with packaging and price.
Same deal here. I got what I ordered in a timely manner and the package is resealable. No complaints.
.
I’m still deciding if I like Erythritol but that has nothing to do with NOW Foods.
I purchased it because it is supposed to be better for a Keto diet than Xylitol and Stevia (to my taste) has a bit of an aftertaste I don’t like.
.
Erythritol is not as sweet as sugar so I would not consider it a 1:1 ratio replacement.
And if you plan to use it for baking then take the time to read up on it. Like Xylitol there are some differences in baking chemistry compared to real sugar. My personal uses are pretty simple – a bit of sweetener in some teas or couple of Keto friendly deserts. For that purpose I think it will work fine. I don’t use very much sweetener (real or alternative) in my foods so this bag will last me quite a while.

I’m a die hard sugar fan, but I’ve been trying to eliminate sugar from my diet. With that being said, I’m a snob when it comes to taste. This is the closest to sugar, concerning taste, that I have tried. I’ve been adding it to my coffee as a sweeter, and like it better than Stevia or Splenda. I haven’t used it in baking yet, but because it is not as sweet as sugar, I think you will need to try out some recipes that call for this stuff in order to gauge the appropriate amount to use as a substitute in recipes that call for sugar. (I haven’t found a conversion table yet.)
I will definitely be purchasing again.
