I drink matcha everyday. I tried this one because of the mushroom supplement. I didn’t know upon buying it (or just didn’t pay attention, really) that it has ginger in the mix. It really tastes like a slightly ginger-y matcha. It does not taste like mushrooms. Literally, it tastes like your regular matcha with some ground ginger sprinkled in. Very good!

First, I should state that I am less interested in how something tastes and more concerned with how it makes me feel… that being said, I won’t eat/drink something if it tastes gosh-awful-horrible (like some green smoothies I’ve tried in the past… but I digress). This morning, I opened my new package of the four sigmatic macha tea and frothed it with my pristine leaf frother and mixed in some creamer (you could use coco milk or anything else!). I am thoroughly enjoying it! It tastes pretty good and I believe 100% in their products. Their adaptogen coffee really does help me “hack stress” like it claims and tastes great with a little creamer added. Their lions mane drink seemed to make me more alert and awake. I never have any “buzz” like I get with coffee, despite the fact some of their drinks have a little caffeine. I am totally hooked on their products and will be a Four Sigmatic customer for life. It really is worth the price to me!

The instructions suggest 1.5 teaspoon. This was too strong for me, too much of a head rush. So, I made it 1 teaspoon. Perfect, whips up nice , (all of it), no clumps, pleasing taste and I seem to realize a difference in cognitive memory. This is my 2nd can

I was really excited to find a matcha powder that comes with lion’s mane mushroom in it, since I love both and normally have to buy/add them in separately. For me, the ginger taste just wasn’t pleasant and for me did not pair nicely with the rest of the ingredients or any add-ins that I used (nut milk, honey). I used it all up because it was expensive, but I have to say I was pretty relieved when it was gone. Your mileage certainly may vary, though, and I’m sure a lot of people wouldn’t mind the ginger at all.

This stuff is amazing! I highly recommend not having it on an empty stomach, or if you are trying to push past exhaustion, however, since that was my state the first time I tried it and I got HIGH AS A KITE!
It’s like being on speed- if I can guess what speed is like- but in a good way. Focus, tons of energy, and a fantastic taste, especially when blended with low-sugar almond milk, make this tea & mushroom blend a go-to staple for me.
The only downside is how little you get for the price. It’s hard to make my frugal midwestern brain be OK with spending $30 on a tiny packet that does not make it a month. However, when you break down the per serving cost, it’s anout the same as making a homemade chai latte with concentrate from the grocer.

My main goal with this product was to benefit from all that it has to offer. Improved digestion, cognitive boost, etc. In that area, Four Sigmatic delivers. However, this stuff really tastes bad. Yes, as others have said, “Grassy” is a good way to describe it. I was able to choke down about 75% of the drink on my first try – but even then I could feel a difference. So I do believe the stuff delivers on its promises in terms of its positive effects. But man, what we need is a website dedicated to the ways to make this stuff more edible. Now the website talks about putting it in ice cream and even baking it into cookies. So I am going to experiment a bit with this. Maybe make some brownies with this in it and see how it goes. The taste is the only reason for the loss of a star – but if you are someone who is already very comfortable with the “grassy” type flavor, then in your case, this probably deserves 5 stars.
UPDATE: Ok, I have the low down for folks that want the effects but don’t enjoy the taste. First, Ice Cream. This works extremely well but make sure to thoroughly mix the powder into the ice cream. To be honest, I did not test with ice cream. I went with gelato and some yogurt ice cream and it worked great in both cases. Now, if you are like me and you want to use this in the morning , which might be an odd time of day for ice cream, I have also tested it with coffee. More specifically, a Venti Starbucks Mocha. This works extremely well. The only downside is that it is difficult to bet it blended as it does tend to clump or adhere to the side of the container it is in. However, that is general issue with this super fine powder that you would have to deal with in any case. Changed my review to 5 stars since the taste is no longer an issue for me!

Maybe I’m not a fan of matcha but I def don’t feel like this is a product I can’t live without… I find it’s hard to homogenize the powder with hot water and the flavor is alright. I’ve been using a frother to mix it and been adding some ghee … perhaps I’m not enjoying this right.
Whitney –
This dissolves easily without issue and tastes great hot or cold. This gave me just enough of a caffeine boost without overwhelming me too which is great because I don’t always do well with caffeine. I will definitely repurchase this guy!
KQC –
I’m a big green tea fan, and I recently have become more interested in the health benefits of mushrooms. So finding this blend was exciting. I love the flavor and I love the effects of the green tea and the mushrooms together. I’d really like to be able to buy this product in bulk or as a subscription, however At this price point, I wonder how much of that is for the tin itself. It’s a great tin, but really I don’t want to have more than one of them kicking around in my kitchen. I would love it if Four Sigmatic Offered a monthly subscription for this product that came just in the foil bag rather than with an additional tin.
King Kahuna –
I love matcha tea. And I love mushrooms. So it was a natural progression for me to mix them together. Which I’ve done before. I’ve taken dried mushrooms and put them in spice grinder and round them up into a powder period and makes out with my matcha tea. But that has drawbacks. This mushroom matcha mix is so fine it mixes and completely dissolves in hot liquids or cold liquids. If you don’t like mushrooms and you don’t like matcha tea this is for you because the flavor is so subtle. In fact I have to add triple what the amount says on the package because I want to taste that flavor. I highly recommend this for all Health fans out there who love Masha and who love mushrooms period or for people who want to get healthy and want to start drinking matcha and mushrooms but don’t want the flavor. Because depending on how strong you make this you get such a tiny subtle flavor or actual flavor love it love it love it love it. All of the Fore Syzmatics products are amazing.

I love lattes but coffee doesn’t work well with my digestion so I haven’t had one in about a year. Because of this I am an avid green tea drinker. Additionally, I have used mushroom powder in my smoothies for their health benefits and so when I saw this product I was super excited. I also got frother so I now make matcha lattes! It is a great addition to my days. I am a social worker and the consistent energy without the crash is extremely helpful. I would definitely recommend this product.
M. E. Heaton –
I don’t really care for the flavor and won’t likely buy it again. I’ll stick to regular Matcha.
Max Frost –
I found out recently that my favorite smoothie item Kale causes some problems with your thyroid unless it’s cooked. Still buying Kale by the bags full but cooking it like spinach. Until I do more research raw kale is off the menu. A nice substitute is this tea that has a truckload of antioxidants. I throw in a tablespoon every morning in my smoothie.
A.S. Belleview –
I was surprised to receive such a small tin can when this arrived, even more surprised when I opened it an the Matcha was in a smaller bag inside the tin can. The matcha only filled up about 1/4 of the can, which is very little. It says 20 servings at about 3 teaspoons a serving. I will attempt this and see how many I get. The taste was actually very good and enjoyable, I’ll update this one how my body reacts to it over few tries.
One thing I am confused about is, I poured the matcha into the tin can and threw away the bag it came in, but the matcha seems to easily seep out the top of the can, even when closed. Was I supposed to leave it in the bag and leave the bag in the can? I feel I have already lost a teaspoon or more of match just from moving around with the tin can.
J. Underwood –
The product is very nice, absolutely no complaints on the flavor. But darn it is so expensive, I can’t become a devotee. Too bad.
Kohl –
I tried this product after giving the coffee a try (Thanks Tim Ferriss). I’ve always preferred tea to coffee and Matcha lattes are my weakness. This is a guilt free way to enjoy my favorite treat, all while jump starting my brain for the day!
Thanks Finland!
Richard K –
I was introduced to foursigmatic from Tim Ferriss. He recommended the lion’s mane coffee but I was into matcha so I got both. I will reserve the review for the coffee on that product. This matcha has ginger in it (I do not like ginger) and it’s overpowering. I would even argue it’s mostly ginger and a little matcha. The flavor took some time to get used to but I think I forced myself to get used to it rather than actually enjoying it as to not waste the product. I would not purchase it again. I didn’t experience the brain boost from the mushrooms either.
AnitaTision –
Just received and tried for the first time. I really like the metal box that is coming in. Be aware this is 20 servings not 30 as shown on the pictures used by Amazon. The color as you may see on the pictures it’s not bright green as first harvest matcha but you should keep in mind there is lion’s mane and ginger inside which I believe contribute for not so vibrant color. That been said I mixed it in a smoothie and the taste was good for me. I saw a lot of people complaining about the taste so tried just a bit left over from the spoon I used to make my smoothie and can tell you don’t find it much bitter than the others matcha powders I used before.
Raymond E Doherty –
This is advertised as 30 servings on the website but the product I received contained 20 servings. Amazon gave me a full refund which I appreciate, but from a company who’s products I really enjoy this seems sketchy and would make me reconsider buying from them again. I absolutely love their chai and it is delicious but this drink was not nearly as tasty and nothing like the vibrant green shown in the picture, and the matcha sits at the bottom of the cup so you, it seems like the added powders weigh it down not like regular matcha light and frothy. It comes in a tiny bag inside of the tin so you are not getting a tin-full.
Codi –
I am giving 3 stars because I genuinely enjoy the flavor of it and do feel a nice energy boost when I drink it… but it takes so long to prepare properly and I am incredibly lazy. It doesn’t dissolve very well and takes a LOT of whisking. So be prepared, it’s more of a weekend at home coffee replacement than something I’m willing to whisk up at the office.
Annette Harper –
I really love the taste and it’s great to put into my shakes in the morning. The only reason I gave it four stars is because the seal broke in two days and now I have to put it into a Ziploc bag and try to squeeze it back into the square metal container every day. Should have a sturdier secure lock for the price that it costs but I love the product itself!
peteyrocks17 –
Great taste. I can taste the quality. Just didn’t know I need one of those tea kit to break down the matcha! So all this time I been drinking down grainy tea. Kinda yuck. But good quality matcha. Just don’t want to spend extra money on a tea mixing kit right now. Wish it had direction saying your gonna need that. Which leads to more work just for a cup of tea.
Camp Louise –
Great Tea! I can have all the positive caffeine effects without the jangles. Since its warmer out I’ve been adding the powder to Almond Milk for an iced latte.
I wish there was a refill option that was a little more environmentally conscious. Now that I have the tin, I really dont need a tin every time, the package feels wasteful.
Roxy –
I’m very disappointed in this matcha. I tried making it hot and cold and it still didn’t turn out right. First it didn’t blend well, second it didn’t taste like high grade matcha and third it wasn’t even bright green like matcha should be. I won’t be buying this again and I’m upset that it didn’t look like on the YouTubers portrayed it on their channels.
Update 5/4/19
I decided to blend the tea in my blender then heat it up and everything dissolved and it was quite good. I have to still get use to the mushroom taste but I think it’s growing on me. I might buy again. The color was muted because of the walnut milk (face palm lol). So overall not bad.!
C. Bensen –
Love the taste of this powder, which is more than straight matcha, but a nice blend to taste like an unsweetened matcha latte. i’m a big fan of ginger so i enjoy the taste.
One suggestion: can you provide a scoop in the canister?
Auntie M. –
Enjoy this matcha mushroom mix for the multiple healthy benefits. I’ve tried it in hot water, cashew milk and in my protein smoothies. Every time it has blended easily and tastes great.
Are you supposed to open the bag inside the tin and empty the contents into the tin? I’m a little frustrated with trying to measure the matcha out of the little baggie. Any suggestions would be great?
Thank you!

Mostly I want matcha tea to boost up my metabolism but found this tea after a little research with lion’s mane helps with the brain. After a couple times using this tea I noticed 15 to 30 mins or less of drink the tea I was up and doing the things I needed to do with out thinking, it gives me so much energy through out the day and for some reason I see the color green much sharper I guess it’s the lion’s mane
Amazon Customer –
Call me a health nut, but I’m all in on this mushroom concoction. I’ve been taking it for about a month and a half and when I ran out I noticed a reduction in focus at work and more gloomy feeling about life in general… after doing some additional research, studies have shown that lions mane can reduce depression and improve over mental health. My wife briefly mentioned some of these health benefits before I started taking it, and I was skeptical at best. But I’m now starting to really believe it. Perhaps it was placebo or sheer dumb luck, but either way I enjoy the taste (unlike the 1 star reviewers) and it is a good coffee substitute.
J –
The tin looked small, but the foil bag inside the tin only took up a third of the space. It’s accurate by weight though. The taste is crazy bitter to me. Drinking it by itself causes nausea. It mixes innocuously in my smoothie though. Haven’t noticed any health benefits. I’m only four servings in though, so I may suddenly feel brilliant and energized at the ten servings point. Who knows?

Currently on my second box of this mix, and I drink it pretty much daily in the afternoons. At first I was reluctant to use it once I realized it includes ginger (the smell kinda threw me off too) but frankly I don’t taste the ginger whatsoever and it’s really delicious with just a bit of milk and honey. I find that this is really the perfect mid day drink for when I’m feeling lower on energy and still need to focus on work on the computer etc. no caffeine crash or jitters either. I adore this stuff
Amazon Customer –
I absolutely LOOOVE this drink … I’ve given up coffee and this, mixed with
some coconut milk, is my new “morning cuppa” … thanks … it makes me
feel great!
C.H.F –
The taste is unique. Very expensive. Unless you are a Matcha lover. Not recommended for Matcha beginners.
Amazon Customer –
IMO – i could taste the mushrooms. I don’t actually like mushrooms so maybe this product was just not for me.
However, I have purchased many of their other products and LOVVVVVE them.
Charles –
Not a bad Matcha powder. A little bland and the ginger can be a bit hard on your stomach. Effect wise it does its job. Good source of caffeine, Lion’s Mane and antioxidants.
Jeff –
The tin contains a vacuum sealed bag of matcha that has about 1/4 of the tin’s volume. I’m sharing this so those ordering for the first time can get a realistic expectation of what’s inside the package. That said, I noticed that the price was lowered by a few dollars and now I think it is worth the price. This has been a good way for me to quit energy drinks like Monster, and switch to a healthier and more moderate source of caffeine. I plan to order again!
Adonya –
So much so that my thoughts were borderline non-existent. It was as if this magickal potion allowed me to remain focused on the task at hand instead of being constantly distracted by meaningless thoughts. [insert The Twilight Zone theme song here]

Yummy! You can smell a tiny bit of mushroom when it’s warm- but just barely, and the taste is all matcha. I make mine with almond or cashew milk, and a little powder goes a long way.
Start with a teaspoon of matcha in a mug, add a couple tablespoons of hot water, stir with a spoon (this gets out any clumps) and then add warm liquid of choice/cold liquid and microwave, and then enjoy!
