Very tasty, great for any time of day. Only slight problem, for me, is that it’s a little thicker than whey protein, which bothers me if I happen to be feeling a little queasy. But, it’s a very small complaint, especially when this stuff tastes like chocolate milk and not tree bark, like so many other brands.
David V –
I’ve tried a lot of protein powders over the years and this is definitely my favorite so far. If you use casein you know it’s generally thicker than whey with a different flavor profile. This protein mixes extremely well and doesn’t clump up anywhere near as much as other casein proteins I’ve used. But what I really like about it is the taste. It’s now my favorite tasting protein by far. Highly recommend it. Tastes better and mixes better than Optimum Nutrition in my opinion.

I have used the Cinnamon Bun for yers and years (I think back then the chocolate wasn’t getting good reviews) and finally broke down and got some for my Keto recipes (The Big Mans World has some awesome recipes if you need a place to start and you like desserts all day long like me;) any way. Thisxameti day and I mixed up a protein mug cake (see blog above) and shut the front door!!! It’s a freaking CHOCOLATECAKE from Betty Crocker!! Good blesseded day from the protein geniuse at Elite I’M HOOKED!! I also made some protein brownie bites (same site- seriously go look this guy up!) and tomorrow am I’ll try just a hot protein shake as cocoa for breakfast (another really good hack in the Keto works is buying Torani Sugr Free Syrups! I buy them 25-30 bottles a time from web restaurant store dot come. And daaaaang if it isn’t a game changer!!)
So do your self a favor and buy this freaking stuff. I still love cinnamon bun (using it for a mug cake is what switch my husband to Keto! He had NO idea “diet food” could taste like a Cinnabon in a mug! And it’s a good hot drink at night after a lot bike ride:)
If you are new to Keto or just searching casein protein the difference from Whey is this stuff keeps you full for hours and hours- drink it before bed so you reap the benefits of a sound sleep!
Hope this helps!

I’m happy with it. And there are 2 major reasons for that:
1. It’s not over sweetened, the taste is great
2. It has no redundant additives in it
I normally take it before bed to cease hunger and gain no weight, in spite, my weight keeps well maintained.
Recommended.

Finding the right protein powder that taste great and does it’s job at the same time can sometimes be difficult to find. I purchased the micellar casein slow absorbing protein; cookies & cream because my friend highly recommended it and gave me a sample. I actually liked the taste and was sold. It wasn’t grainy and it dissolved very well with my blender bottle. I do a high impact workout during the evenings for about 2 hours. As soon as I get home; I usually mix the Dymatize Elite Micellar Casein Protein powder with almond milk, a little PB2 Powdered Peanut Butter and sometimes I add cacao powder. It’s almost like drinking a thick milkshake. I sometimes use this as a meal replacement when I’m too tired to have a small meal after workout. I usually intake half the suggested serving size if I plan to have a meal. It’s does reduce some of my muscle soreness. I will definitely buy it again.

I have the chocolate flavor and I love it, tastes the best with water. I am a huge sugar addict and it helps with my sugar cravings so I can have this instead of brownies or something. I am working out and trying to eat well so I am not sure the exact difference its making as far as building muscle because I do see results but I have also made dramatic changes. My favorite part of this is the help I get with my sugar cravings and it motivates me to workout since I kind of use it as a reward for myself at the end of the day.
Kris –
I use the cinnamon bun flavor in my oatmeal almost every day. It makes it so creamy and mixes in really easy. Replaced some of the flour and sugar in a banana bread recipe with this. So. Good. But the flavor is more like the icing on cinnamon bun, really sweet with just a bit of cinnamon flavor. Good thing I know how to put cinnamon in my oatmeal. I’m excited to try other flavors!
Linda –
I tried both ON and Dymatize casein but I prefer the taste of this one. I like to make casein pudding in the evening by mixing this with peanut butter and almond milk, and Dymatize chocolate casein tastes better without that fake chocolate taste and creamier. It also tastes really good when I make my “hot cocoa” by mixing this in the shaker with milk and microwave in the mug for 1 minute or so.
Chen L. –
It has good flavor but a little bit hard to solute. Meanwhile after drinking, I have to rince shaker as soon as possible, otherwise it will smell like “bad egg” in next morning.
Vanessa Rosario –
Excellent nutrients and price but extremely chalky by itself with milk. It helped to make it less chalky adding yogurt and fruits but still grainy. Going through the trouble of adding extra stuff to make it tolerable may not be worth it. Nutrition is on point, so is the ability to keep you full. If you are a baby about chalkiness in protein like me, this product may not be a good purchase. I suggest getting a smaller container to try it out.

I started my fitness journey last year with Optimum Nutrition (ON) Whey Isolate and ON Casein. After spending so much time with these two products, I was concerned that a different brand wouldn’t be as good. You know what got me though? THE FLAVORS, this Cookies and Cream is the bomb, and tastes just like the Hershey’s bar of the same name. I wish more companies would try interesting flavors like this.
B Franklin –
Flavor is good and mixes really well but…
After reading the other reviews about the scoop I tested myself. I tared the scale to remove the scoop weight which is 7g. A loose and level scoop is 20g but the bag says that a scoop is 16.5g. If they are lying about the scoop size to make me use more faster, what else are they lying about? Is it really 25g of protein? Is it really 5.3g BCAA? I can measure the scoop but not this other stuff. Very shady stuff.
Sarah –
So I bought this mainly to take before bed as a slow digesting protein. One thing I noticed was that a serving is equal to 2 scoops per directions, which isn’t a big issue but other protein powders I’ve used were a single scoop. The flavor is good, but is definitely gritty, it doesn’t make it undrinkable but its noticeable. It also would be very difficult to mix without some sort of blender, I haven’t used it in a shaker but it might get clumpy. It’s also on the thin side, kind of like chocolate milk.
Overall I will finish it and maybe try a different brand just to compare it to something else but for the price it does what it’s supposed to and is drinkable, what else can you ask for.
zwamazon –
I use the vanilla as my coffee creamer . I mix a half scoop with some nd cold water, add cinnamon and cocoa powder then slowly pour in the hot coffee , and stirring to prevent clumping . I may still add one tablespoon of regular creamer
I end up with a 100 to 110 calorie protein rich vanilla, spice. and chocolate flavoured coffee. What is not to love in my concoction
SPrz –
Always been a big fan of Optimum Nutrition but I wanted to try something different, so I got Elite Casien Cinnamon flavor and it tastes great! For me it tastes like the mexican flavored drink” Agua de Horchata”, sweet rice water, and personally I love that stuff. Its way thinner than the other casein powders I’ve tried, were 2 scoops turn the shake into a thick batter and Elite Casien doesn’t do that.
J Smith –
This was my first time buying any kind of casein powder and I was pleased with this one. It has a rich chocolate flavor that I really enjoyed. It does have a bit of grittiness to it but it’s not that bad. I’ve used it to make shakes, protein ice cream, and brownies, and they all came out pretty good. I will definitely be buying more and highly recommend it.
Cindy –
For a protien powder it doesn’t taste that bad, but there is a great trick for getting rid of after taste to make it taste like real chocolate. Mix with hot water and drink right away. No kidding, it tastes just like hot chocolate with no diet/weirdness taste. I love it!
Jake –
I’ve never had casein powder before, but I have almost a decade of experience with whey. I am not sure if this brand or casein in general, but the powder felt very thick like there were sediments floating around in it. Over 1 month in and think I have only used 3-4 servings. Will try ON next time instead of trying to save a few bucks.
M. –
Good Casein product. I do like the chocolate flavor. Its a nice protein supplement to take at night for those looking to increase protein intake as part of a weight lifting program.
Geneva C. –
This taste DELICIOUS!!!!!!! Possibly the best tasting casein I have ever bought! Do you know the cereal Cinnamon Toast Crunch?! Well THIS TASTE JUST LIKE IT!!!!! I drink one for my last meal of the day before bed. It gets me extremely full but it does have an effect that it quickly makes me sleepy from how full I am lol. Which I don’t mind at all since it’s about to be time for bed. Highly recommend to try this flavor.
Alan –
The scoop changed. 1 serving is still 36 grams but now you need to use 2 smaller scoops rather than 1 large scoop. Not a huge issue. I enjoy this product but it comes with risks, such as the artificial ingredients. Make sure you keep a balance in your diet. If possible natural whole food sources is always better than processed food. Great value, Mixes well with almond milk. Enjoy and get swole !!!
Paul Cici –
Casein protein. Best tasting protein powder I have ever used. More expensive than similar whey protein blend. Best thing you can do is just use this before bed, casein is very slow protein to break down. Much slower than a whey protein. So, it will get you through most of night. Use a good Whey protein during day.
samuel –
Got Casein to take before bead to insure my protein macro is on par while I’m sleeping as I’m bulking right now. Flavor was amazing mixed with whole milk, heavy whipping cream, sugar free Cool whip and penut butter using emulsion blender. Very simple, I’m on low carb and the flavour was a real treat, mixed well.
MichiganTraveler –
i like the nutritional make-up of this powder, but everytime I use it I nearly gag because it is so cloyingly sweet. Way too sweet for my taste. Maybe it’s where I’m cutting back on sweets overall, but the first time I tried this I knew I would regret this purchase.
Brandon B. –
This is the best tasting Casein protein I have tried so far. Casein and whey protein are different, so you can’t expect it to taste as good as whey. This one is actually good enough to drink, whereas others I have tried are so bad tasting that I have to make them into mug cakes in order to use them. Casein will always be thicker than whey, so don’t expect it to go down as easily. In my opinion, Dymatize has the best tasting protein powder across the board (try the chocolate peanut butter whey), even over Gold Standards top-rated flavors. Taste-wise, you can’t go wrong with Dymatize!
Amazon Customer –
Chalky, overly sweet, and lots of artificial ingredients. Not the cleanest or best mixing casein protein. Consistency is quite chalky. The taste is close to a cinnamon roll but artificially sweet. I personally don’t feel like I recover as well using this product as I have with other brands.
Leroy –
I stumbled upon this Casein after doing some research on bodybuilding.com which is a website I use to find the best supplement reviews. It was one of the top Casein protein supplements and for the price I had to try it out. I must say that I have no regrets, the taste is amazing and the calorie count is perfect.
This Casein is perfect for those that have regular hard workouts through out the week and find themselves hungry at night. Quite often I would find myself starving at night after having a good workout and trying to eat healthy. So a friend recommend Casein to help me with my muscle recovery and I have just started drinking this a week ago. The best way to prepare it is with Almond milk and some ice. Almond milk is very healthy and low fat but best of all it’s lactose free for those that have lactose problems. Will definitely be buying more.
Ed & Elizabeth Diez –
I opened the top and immediately see that just like a bag of potato chips you get this gigantic container that’s filled about 2/3. I also noticed that the scoop is significantly bigger than the regular Dymatize protein. In fact I weighed a level scoop and it is indeed 48 grams (a serving is 36g).
All that aside it is ridiculously tasty and when I mix it in 12 is of unsweetened almond milk it leaves you feeling completely full. I’ve only made it with almond milk and the consistency is like runny pudding or pancake batter. Perhaps because I’ve been doing a level scoop which is more than an actual serving. I will definitely try making it with an actual 36g serving and different types of liquids to see if consistency improves….but truthfully I love pudding so I don’t mind spooning it like a dessert. TRY IT!!!
***Scoop alone weighs 12 grams. Level scoop full is around 48-50 grams. The other picture you can see how much you need to make it an actual serving of 36 grams. Also you can see scoop sizes between Dymatize case in protein and iso 100 hydrolyzed. The case in is bigger ***
Jamie Horner –
I usually use a whey and casein protein combo to get the immediate whey repair and the longer lasting casein digestion. It helps following my morning workout and gets me about halfway through the day still feeling full. I use it again after my evening workout to slowly digest through the night. The casein adds a creaminess to the quick drink I make in the blender with vanilla flavored almond milk. Hence it provides better flavor, texture and a feeling of fullness than the whey protein alone. The chocolate flavor is also pretty good. One of the better proteins I’ve used.
JA –
Best taste I’ve ever had.
I have probably tried over 10 brands and types of chocolate protein powder over the years. This is the best I’ve ever had. I blend it with coffee and it blends well in a blender without all the gross foam others leave. Stirring it in coffee is ok. Your typical chunks but they eventually dissolve. I don’t use a blender ball since I mix with hot coffee. It keeps me full for 3-5 hours.
Directec –
We use this Casein protein mainly about 2 hours before bedtime because Casein releases amino acids slowly so before bedtime allows to help with recovery and reduce muscle breakdown while sleeping. Also boosts muscle growth!!
Liz McCullough –
I use it with my meals during the day. People say use casein at night. But I found that casine instead of whey during the day helps keep me full a lot longer because casein digests slower than whey protein. If your goal is dieting to lose weight, I recommend using this.
Said and Christen –
I have used a lot of products before but this is one of the best in the market. I love the taste and how it make me full but not bloated. Most products out there make you bloated and you get a lot of gas. I would recommend this any day and anytime.
Taylor –
The flavor is great and it mixes well. I eat it as pudding every night before bed and it satisfies my sweet tooth, without containing a ton of sugar and carbs. highly recommend.
jtgidden88 –
I have found that drinking this 1 hr to 1/2 before going to bed my sleeping has dramatically improved. My muscles definitely tend to feel less sore after a heavy lifting day if I have a serving of this casein before bed. I wouldn’t say it physically works any better or worse than any other casein I have had. However; it mixes smoother, it tastes better, and it is one of the best prices/gram that I have found. Mix it with 8 0z Cashew Milk, 8 0z water, 1 serving pb fit for an awesome flavor.
Matthew Hansen –
The cinnamon bun flavor is the best I’ve had. It muxes pretty darn good. Sure maybe a little bit of clumping on the stem of the spoon, but it mixes really easily. And the casein protein works well for longer-lasting recovery. Give it a try!
john a –
I like the fact it helps recover at night and keeps you full. Getting results and the flavor is nice. Like a ice cream shake! Wish they used stevia in it instead of sucralose. Its not cheap but quality is top notch though. No problems with upset stomach either.
Wendy –
I’m just a 50-something wife and mom trying to up her protein intake, and have been drinking protein smoothies to boost my daily numbers. Love the Dymatize ISO Protein Powder Isolate in Gourmet Chocolate, but their Micellar Casein Slow Absorbing Protein, Rich Chocolate – not so much. Glad I bought the 2 lb. container instead of the larger one.
Dimatize’s Micellar Casein Slow Absorbing Protein, Rich Chocolate is not that rich and is, as others have noted, kind of chalky. Note that I add a banana and berries – and the chalkiness still comes through, but the chocolate really doesn’t..
Since it does not matter which protein I absorb or how fast I absorb it, I’ll be going back to the Dymatize ISO Protein Powder Isolate in Gourmet Chocolate. It just tastes SO much better for the same amount of protein. If absorption rate is not a determining factor for you, go with Dymatize’s Isolate version.
Jenny –
This is the best tasting protein powder I’ve ever had. And that’s just the vanilla flavor. I blend a scoop of this with milk and frozen strawberries + bananas and it tastes just like a milkshake. No weird aftertaste or texture. It’s very filling and I will sometimes have a smoothie made with this and fruit for lunch. I m going to try to make protein pudding out of this next.
BigB83 –
This is a good tasting mix. Got the chocolate flavor. It doesn’t leave that super sweet aftertaste that other powders do. I mixed it out smooth in a bullet blender with almond milk and ice so it didn’t come out clumpy or chalky for me. And it really is filling before bed.
StephenC –
I’ve tried a few different casein protein powders and I was not impressed until this one. Great chocolate taste. I usually mix in fruit like strawberries or bananas and it goes great with Dannon Low Fat yogurt. It creates a rich taste that blends well with anything that tastes good with chocolate.
Robert –
So I got a 4lb container of this about a week into January. Saw how big the scooper was and realized there’s no way there’s 55 scoops in this and running out so quickly solidified my that.
My new container came in yesterday and I decided to figure out how much was really in one container. So I weighed my old empty container to get a base weight, then I weighed the brand new container with all the powder in it. Did a little more math and came down to figuring out that there are only 46.8 ounces of protein powder in a container.
THAT’S ONLY 2.9 POUNDS, NOT 4
The protein itself is good, but getting skimmed on protein is bs
