Betaine HCL Digestive Enzyme with 150mg of Pepsin from NOW may provide digestive support.
Betaine HCL (hydrochloric acid) may help to promote digestion in those whose bodies fail to produce enough hydrochloric acid naturally. Betaine HCL may help to break down foods in the stomach.

I have Hashimoto’s Hypothyroidism and one of the many symptoms associated with this illness is the inability to produce enough, if any, stomach acid to digest food. The bloating was unbearable and oh so painful. But because my thyroid medicine was keeping my T3 and T4 levels balanced my dr. said there was nothing wrong with me. So I cut out all bread, crackers, chips, pasta, and desserts from my diet thinking I had Gluten issues – didn’t leave a lot of options for food – Nutrition bars, Gluten-Free Cheerios, and Yogurt, along with vinegar, tomatoes, and lemons. For a year I drank hot lemon water, apple cider vinegar, and ate tomatoes every day just to get acid in my stomach. A friend, who also has digestive issues due to Hashimoto’s, told me about Papaya Enzymes, and I gave them a try… that helped, but not enough, and just by chance I stumbled across NOW Betaine and after reading about it, I decided to buy a bottle.
After taking just 1 pill before supper – I noticed a difference. Over the span of a week, taking 1 HCL before each meal, I have noticed 1) a lack of bloating. 2) the ability to eat bread again(!), 3) I have energy because my food is getting into my body and not sitting in my stomach, fermenting.

UPDATE:
Today is August 9th, 2018, and I’m updating my previous review of NOW Betaine! I have been taking this product for 18 days and guess what (?) I can eat again. Not Gluten-Free foods either, real food! Bread – I can eat bread again. I had a doughnut this past weekend and I didn’t have 1 stomach ache. I take 1 NOW Betaine before each meal and my stomach digests food like its supposed to. I have even lost 4 pounds! I went to the fair with my oldest son and we ate fair food – he was so happy for me, he said, ‘mom, that supplement is a miracle for you!’ I feel more like ‘me’ again and it’s great!

I was buying several large bottles of antiacids monthly as well as taking Rantidine trabels daily for indigestion, heartburn and acid reflux. It had probably been years since I had a decent night sleep, not an exaggeration.

Adding HCl to my self-care practices has been a total game changer. I used to be sick every single day of my life (GERD with frequent regurgitation, debilitating gas pains, sour stomach, chronic sore throat from the reflux — terrible!!!) Normal physicians only a battery of expensive tests to determine what drugs to give you for a life-sentence. I finally reached the end of my rope and after extensive research stopped taking the prescriptions (which also had the side effect of making me zombie-tired all day long) — In less than 2 weeks the turnaround, after YEARS of being so so sick, is almost unbelievable.
This is what I do, for anyone interested:
As soon as I wake up I take a probiotic (the high-quality kind that comes from the refrigerated section in Whole Foods) and also a 500mg capsule of MASTIC GUM. I take these with a small glass of diluted aloe vera juice. After I take the pills I stir in 1 TSP of Vital Nutrients GI Repair Powder into the aloe-drink and down that.
About an hour later (giving the probiotics time to release from the capsule and make themselves at home in my belly) I have a smoothie — the fruits vary but I always add a scoop of grass-fed collagen peptides (collagen is found in the intestinal walls among other parts of the body, and is a source of protein) — this is when I take my first capsule of Betaine HCl. For me 1 cap is enough, though I have read some people may need as many as 5 capsules per protein-based meal.
The rest of the day I eat normally, avoiding the foods I know are my enemies. Before meals I take 1 cap of Digest Gold digestive enzymes (– these have also been a HUGE GAME CHANGER it’s crazy how much better I feel since starting them!) I also take 1 cap of this Betaine HCl when I eat a big meal, with the first bite, regardless of protein percentage.
I stop eating several hours before bed, and then about an hour before I lay down I take a second probiotic and a second 500mg cap of mastic gum. In 2 weeks I went from living in virtually hopeless horror and fear for my health, to feeling great and truly healthy!!! I don’t vomit up half the food I eat anymore, I don’t vomit at ALL anymore. My throat feels better, I don’t get sour stomach nearly as often (sometimes I cheat and do something dumb like drink coffee), and my BMs are also much healthier. I sincerely hope this information helps someone else out there!

I took this, and for once, I didn’t get sick after I ate. I did not getting a burning feeling in my stomach, no side effects. It was like a miracle, I never thought I would feel normal after eating again, I took numerous trips to the doctor, and I kept getting turned away and being told that it was all in my head. Well, I know my body, and knew that things were not right. Ordering this product has been a life changer. If you suffer from low stomach acidity like I do, you need this product!

I’ve been to a nutritionist for digestive problems. She often prescribed extra stomache acid on top of digestive enzymes. I haven’t been to her for a long time (she passed from a car accident) and recently noticed that I am having too much gas after eating. I found these after researching something called “The Baking Soda Test” online which determines if you have too much or not enough stomache acid, and decided to try them to see if that relieves the problem.(Honestly, I never tried the test) I still take digestive enzymes when I eat and I’ve added one of these pills to every meal. My gas is way less thank God! I will continue to buy this product.
