When I opened the lid, I was very skeptical about its color. Very earthy color, and just wasn’t appealing lol.
However it taste really good. Very heavy on peanuts flavor and less chocolate than I imagined. If you like peanut butter cup, you will like this powder.
One thing to point out is that the scooper is very large. Probably 1.5 times bigger than the scoops you are used to see for other brands. The container is rather small (see picture, I put a sharpie next to the container). It’s hard not to make a little mess when you are trying to scoop out from a small container with a large scooper.
That’s my only complaint.
It taste amazing though. I mixed with unsweetened almond milk and it was heavenly.

OK- So… I found Amazing grass while researching the best Vegan Protein Powders to try after deciding Shakeology was too expensive and lacking in the amount of protein and if we’re honest, flavor. The peanut butter chocolate was the first flavor I tried. I was pretty impressed with it at first, all though it doesn’t taste much like chocolate at all and mostly peanut butter. I then ordered their Vanilla and Chocolate to try. The vanilla was pretty good, although it tasted nothing like vanilla, but maybe more of a chai tea or something? It tasted like cinnamon or some sort of spice. I can’t put my finger on it. The chocolate was probably my favorite, which is strange because that’s the one that you can taste the stevia in the most. If you hate stevia, stay away from the chocolate.
What attracted me to Amazing Grass was the full serving of fruit and veggies, greens, no flax seed (I have a family member who is intolerant) and the 20 grams of protein. What turned me off, besides getting extremely tired of the flavors before I’m even half-way through the tub, was the fact that I didn’t need an additional serving of fruit (I basically eat fruit all day long) and 20% of vitamin A isn’t a lot, but my vitamins have like 50% plus the amount I’m eating in other foods I don’t know about and so if I want 1 serving in the morning and 1 at night I’m riding a dangerous line (p.s. I’m preggers, hence the worry of vitamin A over-dosage).
Over all, it wasn’t bad. I’d still recommend it to people who aren’t getting enough fruit and veggies in their diet, or can’t digest flax seed, but for myself, I’ll be switching to a new brand.

I got tired of the GI issues from Whey protein drinks, so I went to Whole Foods one day and bought a single serving pack of every plant-based protein shake mix they had. 6 or 7 of them. The Amazing Grass Protein Choc/PB flavor was by far the best. No nasty aftertaste from artificial sweeteners, really tastes good, and tons of protein. I mix it in a Blender bottle with about 1/3 almond milk, the rest water. The almond milk adds a bit of richness which I like. Sometimes if I’ve been doing a lot of bike training, I’ll add a squirt of choc syrup to it for the sugar, but if does not need that to taste good. Highly recommended.

I have been using Amazing Grass protein powder for my breakfast shake for about 3 years now. I quit looking for other ones after I found this one (Choc Peanut Butter). It’s the best. It blends very well, doesn’t have a gritty flavor, has tons of good ingredients I’d be unlikely to consume otherwise, and it tastes good.
What I especially appreciate about THIS particular Choc PB flavor from Amazing Grass is that it doesn’t have that super sweet stevia flavor that a lot of the powders have. I’ve used less natural protein powders in the past and they may taste more ‘normally’ sweet but they have chemicals in them that I don’t want to consume.
In the category of naturally sweetened powders, even the other Amazing Grass flavors have that super-stevia flavor, which personally I don’t care for. I’ve accidentally purchased the plain Chocolate flavor of Amazing Grass more than once. The only way I can manage to drink it is to blend some PB2 peanut butter powder in it and mask that flavor a bit. I tried the Choc Mint flavor once during the winter and it was not tolerable due to the uber-stevia flavor. So I just keep returnint to buy this Choc PB flavor and double checking that I’m not buying plain Chocolate! lol
I blend my powder with several things that I want to consume and it’s easiest to toss in here: Matcha green tea powder, a packet of Knox gelatin (works better than any collagen powder I’ve tried and is way cheaper), sometimes a bit of charcoal powder, Epicor powder, almond milk, and a few drops of Vanilla Sweet Drops to help offset any bitter flavor that may result from the supplements I’ve tossed in.
Does it taste like a delicious milkshake? No. Is it healthier and keeps me full into the early afternoon? Yes. It’s a great way to take in a lot of protein and other good nutrients without a lot of calories. For me, this powder is worth the money.

So, I drink all these “new-age” powders and potions and try to do what I can to supplement my mediocre diet, and most of the greens drinks taste –in my opinion– very bad. This is actually pretty good… I mean, look, it’s not actually good, like, I don’t get cravings for it in the middle of the night, but it’s palatable and I can drink it without thinking about how gross it is. To me this tastes way better than the regular Amazing Grass and way, way better than the Trader Joe’s pea powder protein fiasco I was drinking before. Plus, to have it both in one drink adds a touch of convenience and efficiency.
But, it’s freaking expensive!

Don’t get me wrong, I love this brand. I love most of their products. This flavor is the one that falls short. I purchased it one time because the price was much cheaper for the same amount than the usual stuff. I figured how bad could the peanut butter flavor be? I’ve made a few smoothies with things like bananas and other fruit that will complement peanut butter, but unlike their other varieties, there really isn’t much you can do with it. The original jar I purchased is still sitting in my cupboard after six months, basically unused. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love the brand itself and the other varieties, just this one isn’t for me.
AUgie the Prospector –
I mix these plant protein powders with water at about half the recommended strength, to use as an appetite suppressant to avoid snacking. Vanilla is vile tasting – I recommend it only mixed with robustly flavored drinks. Chocolate is very sweet and chocolaty, my favorite, though I find it keeps me awake if taken near bed-time (tried several times, these is not question about it). So I use Peanut or sometimes Chocolate/Peanut later in the evening.
A taste similar to the Peanut flavor, but with a hint of bitterness from the chocolate – not unpleasant, it cuts the peanut flavor a bit, which some people might like, but I slightly prefer the pure Peanut. Both are good, just not as good as Rich Chocolate!
