My husband will only use this ‘natural’ (NOT vanilla) flavored protein powder by BioChem. They used to sell it at Whole Foods but in only some of the stores. When we moved states it just so happened they did not carry it locally. I love that it is on Amazon and I order it a few times a year for him. I have no idea what is in it or how potent/effective the protein is per scoop. It seems to be great in his post workout smoothies – milk, scoop of this, frozen strawberries, half a frozen banana.

I did a lot of searching for the right protein powder. The final deciding factor was that this is the only powder I could find on the Clean Label Project that scored 5s for lack of heavy metal and other contaminants AND had a 5 for nutritional value. I also wanted a vanilla to mix in fruit smoothies. This product doesn’t overpower the fruit flavors and blends well in my blender – not grainy. I will purchase again.

This stuff tastes pretty gross… distinctly of almonds. Couldn’t figure out why until I re-read the ingredients and saw that this includes “Natural French Vanilla Flavor” (i.e. vanilla & almond). Ech… If I wanted gross vanilla flavor, I would have chosen the vanilla flavor.
If you want actually unflavored whey protein, try Amazon Elements: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07K1KJSSN/ref=sns_myd_detail_page?th=1
(And no, I don’t work for Amazon. *lol* Just found their product to be what I was actually looking for in this case. 🙂 )

I like the overall taste and nutritional value of the protein. I’ve tried plenty of protein powders to say this is really good, compared to ON(another okay tasting protein), it’s way better. Couple bucks more but I can drink it with just water and not hold my nose drinking it. Usually a lot of protein powders taste chalky and a are a little hard on the stomach but this one is good. I get the unflavored and add it to smoothies or just as is with water after a workout. Unflavored is still basically vanilla flavor just not as much sugar, not by much though, and not as strong vanilla flavor.

From what I’ve read online, whey is one of the safest protein sources (the plant-based stuff sounds good until you read about all of the chemicals like arsenic, mercury and lead that come from the environment and are concentrated in particularly brown rice). The “Natural” version of this product doesn’t list any sugars or sweeteners or artificial flavors. Using a full scoop (supplied but buried about half-way into the powder) makes a creamy glass of milk. I use half a scoop to make it last longer, and I’m not sure I need the full 20g of additional protein. The product isn’t very easy to dissolve, so I use a little bit of hot water and fill the rest of glass with whole milk to offset the dilution. Overall, exactly what is described.

I hate the taste of stevia, monk fruit, Splenda and all other natural and artificial sweeteners commonly added to protein powders. I love this plain unflavored powder. If I want a sweet smoothie, I will add some fruit to it on my own. It is almost impossible to find an unflavored, unsweetened protein powder in stores and I get tired of scouring the ingredient lists, so this product has been my go-to for years. I only buy the “natural flavor” (i.e., unflavored) version, not the vanilla or chocolate.
